What services are available for visitors?

Please see our Visitor Services page for a description of the levels of services available to visitors.

For security reasons, when the library is open late, doors are locked to restrict entrance:
After 10pm each day, only LMU faculty, staff, and current LMU students as well as Loyola Law School students, faculty, and staff (with OneCards) may be in the building. They may be asked to show OneCards for verification after 10 p.m.

Without a Borrower's Card, visitors can:

  • Enter the library when doors are unlocked (typically between 8am (11am on weekends) and 10pm.)

  • Use the guest wireless.

  • Use of Information Commons computers, for visitors in approved categories. To register, show appropriate ID at Information Desk.

  • Use books or media in the library. Basement items require filling out a walk-up request form (paging can take 1-2 hours). Media (DVDs, VHS) require a form to check out and are only for 3 hour in-library use.

  • Check out headphones with a form through Circulation.

  • Visitors can purchase a VTS card or add money to it at the VTS machine to make copies or print.

  • Checking out books or other items will require the purchase of a Borrower's Card, with some exceptions for specific groups with agreements with the library (see Circulation for help).

With a Borrower's Card (annual charges apply), visitors can:

  • Check out books (media items and journals may be for in-library use only)

  • Request basement storage items online (rather than through the walk-up request form)

  • Also, visitors with borrower's cards continue to have access to services listed under "Without a Borrower's Card" above.

Borrower's Cards do not grant the ability to recall items, use interlibrary loan services, reserve group study rooms, or use library databases or electronic resources outside of the library.
