How do I find standards?
To discover a standard for your topic:
- Use SAI Global to search for standards by keyword.
- Once you locate a standard of interest, note the issuing organization and standard number.
- Follow the steps below.
To find a known standard:
- First, verify the standard issuing organization and number (ex: For the standard ASTM D828, ASTM is the issuing organization and the standard number is D828 or ASTM D828.)
- Check if the library has a subscription to the organization's platform - if the organization is ASTM or IEEE, access their platforms via the Database List.
- If the issuing organization is not ASTM or IEEE, submit an OneSearch request.
- In OneSearch, choose the "Standard" resource type, then provide as much information as possible including standard number, issuing organization, title, and year.
- The library will either borrow from another library, purchase a copy, or reach out to discuss the specific standard.
