How do I find standards?

How do I find standards at the library?

Standards are technical specifications and guidelines used across engineering, science, and technology fields. Here's how to access them through LMU's library:

ASTM Standards - Access these through the ASTM Compass database, available on the library's website. This includes materials testing standards, construction specifications, and other ASTM International publications. You can search by standard number, keyword, or browse by subject area. (e.g.: For the standard ASTM D828, ASTM is the issuing organization and the standard number is D828 or ASTM D828.)

IEEE Standards - Find these through IEEE Xplore, which provides access to IEEE's extensive collection of electrical, electronics, and computer engineering standards. Search by standard number or topic within the database.

Other Standards Organizations - For standards from organizations like ISO, ANSI, NIST, or industry-specific bodies, you'll need to request them through our interlibrary loan service (ILLiad). Create an account on the library website and submit your request with the specific standard number and title.

Locating Standards - If you're unsure about which standard you need or want to verify a standard number, use the Intertek Inform database (formerly SAI Global) to search and identify the correct standard before requesting it through the library.

Getting Help - Standards can be complex to locate and expensive to purchase individually. Contact a librarian for assistance with identifying the right standards for your research or to help navigate our databases effectively.

Access Note - Many standards are available for viewing and reference but may have restrictions on downloading or printing due to licensing agreements.
